New Image from Baz Lurhmann’s The Great Gatsby

Check out the new image from Baz Luhrmann’s much anticipated film The Great Gatsby.

The photo shows flamboyant and suave Jewish money lender Meyer Wolfsheim (Amitabh Bachchan) who’s sitting next to Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) and Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio).

For those not familiar, The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

DVD Review: Albert Nobbs

It’s truly upsetting that Glenn Close did not get the recognition she deserved for Albert Nobbs.

Yes, she got an Oscar nod for her role, but it should have been more than that.

She was moving, engaging and almost unrecognizable in the film.

Albert Nobbs follows a woman (Close) who is pretending to be a man serving as a butler in a hotel, who’s looking to earn enough money to open a small shop.

Albert meets Hubert Page(Janet McTeer), a house painter who is also a woman disguised as a man. Page has embraced life and married a woman, and encourages Albert to do the same.

Albert chooses the flirty hotel maid Helen (Mia Wasikowska), who is encouraged to play along by her boyfriend (Aaron Johnson) because he hopes to get his hands on Albert’s money.

The film is cowritten and produced by Close and allegedly she has been trying to get it to the big screen for the past 30 years.

The film also stars Pauline Collins, Brendan Gleeson and Jonathan Rhys-Myers.
