Colin Firth Wins Best Actor at Oscars

The King’s Speech Colin Firth picked up the Best Actor award for his portray of King George VI.

“I have a feeling my career has just peaked,” Firth said during his acceptance speech.

“I”m afraid I have to warn you that i’m expecting stirrings in the abdominal, which are threatening to form into dance moves,” he joked.

“I want to thank all the people who have been rooting for me back home,” he continued. “Thank you to my [wife] Livia for putting up with my fleeting delusions of royalty.”

Natalie Portman: Best Actress Winner at the 2011 Oscars

Natalie Portman won the Best Actress award for her portrayal of a ballerina in Black Swan.

“This is insane and I truly wish the prize was just to work with my fellow nominees,” said Portman in her acceptance speech. “I’m so in awe of you. I’m so grateful to do the job that I do.

“I want to thank my team who works with me everyday,” she continued. “Thank you to the love of my life, Ben Millepied who gave me the greatest role yet.”

Portman beat out Annette Bening, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams.

Christian Bale Wins Best Supporting Actor at 2011 Oscars

Christian Bale won Best Supporting Actor during the 83rd Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

“What a room full of talented and inspirational people,” Bale said during his acceptance speech.  ”What am I doing here? What an honor.”

Bale also thanked his costar Melissa Leo who garnered an award for her role in the film.

“Thank you to Melissa,” he said. “I’m not going to drop the ‘F’ bomb like she did, I’ve done that plenty before.”

Bale won for his portrayal of Dickie Eklund in The Figher. He also thanked Eklund, who was in the audience.

“He’s had a wonderful story and I Can’t wait to see the next chapter of that story,” Bale said.

Melissa Leo: 2011 Oscars Supporting Actress Winner

Melissa Leo took home the statuette for Best Supporting Actress during the 2011 Oscars held at the Kodak Theater on Sunday (Feb. 27) in Los Angeles.

The 50-year-old actress won for her role in The Fighter.

Leo beat fellow Fighter actress Amy Adams, Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech), Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom).

And the 2011 Oscar Nominees Are…

Mo’Nique and Academy president Tom Sherak announced the nominations for the 2011 Academy Awards at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater on Tuesday (Jan. 25) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The King’s Speech led the pack with twelve nominations, while True Grit garnered ten and Inception and The Social Network tied with eight.

The 2011 Academy Awards will air on Feb. 27 on ABC.

Both James Franco and Anne Hathaway will host the show.

Anne Hathaway and James Franco’s New Gig: Co-Hosting the Oscars

Anne Hathaway and James Franco will be sharing the stage during the 2011 Academy Awards, which the duo will co-host.

Hathaway and Franco “personify the next generation of Hollywood icons— fresh, exciting and multi-talented,” the Academy said in a statement. “We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on February 27.”

The Hurt Locker: Best Picture Award

The Hurt Locker took home the big prize last night (March 7) at the 82nd Academy Awards held at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.

Director Kathryn Bigelow also took home the Best Director award for the film – she’s the first woman to win the award in the Academy’s history.

Here’s what she said during her acceptance speech:

“This really is… There’s no other way to describe it, it’s the moment of a lifetime. First of all, this is so extraordinary to be in the company of such powerful, my fellow nominees, such powerful filmmakers who have inspired me and I have admired for, some of whom, for decades. And thank you to every member of the Academy. This is, again, the moment of a lifetime.”

FYI: Bigelow’s ex-husband, James Cameron was also nominated for the Best Director and Best Picture award for his film, Avatar.

Sandra Bullock: Best Actress Winner

Sandra Bullock won her first Oscar for her performance in The Blind Side.

Here’s what she said during her acceptance speech:

“Did I really earn this or did I just wear you all down? I would like to thank the Academy for allowing me in the last month to have the most incredible ride with rooms full of artists that I see tonight and that I’ve worked with before and I hope to work with in the future, who inspire me and blaze trails for us. Four of them that I’ve fallen deeply in love with I share this night with and I share this award with.

Gabby, I love you so much. You are exquisite. You are beyond words to me. Carey, your grace and your elegance and your beauty and your talent makes me sick. Helen, I feel like we are family through family and I don’t have the words to express just what I think of you. And Meryl, you know what I think of you and you are such a good kisser.

Jeff Bridges: Best Actor Winner

Jeff Bridges took home the Best Actor award for his role as Bad Blake in Crazy Heart.

The actor was nominated along with Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), George Clooney (Up in the Air), Colin Firth (A Single Man) and Morgan Freeman (Invictus).

During his acceptance speech he said:

“Oh! Thank you, Academy members! Mom and dad, yeah, look! Whoo!

Thank you, Mom and Dad, for turning me on to such a groovy profession. Oh, my dad and my mom, they loved show biz so much. I remember my mom, getting all of us kids to entertain at her parties. You know, my dad sitting me on his bed and teaching me all of the basics of acting for a role in Sea Hunt.
